Eyjafjallajökull    Ash: Early April 2010 dust and ash emmissions from the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull [ay-ah-fjad-la-jo-kul] managed to cause Worldwide havoc to the avaiation industry and affected over 100,000 flights coming in and out of Europe.

The grey ash originated from a depth of 7km and is more than 1100 degrees in Celsius (or 2000 in Fahrenheit) when it emerged to the surface and came into contact with the glacial ice, which lays 300 metres thick above, it caused enormous steam explosions, resulting in millions of tons of new solid lava being thrown into the atmosphere as tiny light weight particles, i.e. volcanic ash.

Mt. St. Helens Ash: On May 18, 1980 a disaster began with a large earthquake at 8:32 that morning measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale, and triggering a series of explosions that increased in frequency and intensity. The eruption reached its peak with a violent explosion around 3:50 pm, causing the largest debris avalanche ever recorded to power 14 miles west. On top of this a large cloud of ash rose up to 15 miles into the atmosphere. The combined results of the seismic activity throughout the day devastated the landscape.

The stem of this colossal 27oz. red wine glass contains the volacanic ash of the volcano's; Eyjafjallajökull (dark black) & Mt. St. Helens (dark gray). The ashes are expoxied with tiny glass particles and a fiery red layer...HOT!
